IIPDW Submits Case Studies for England’s Prescribed Medicines Review

In 2019, Public Health England published the results of its Review into the issue of Dependence and Withdrawal Associated with some Prescribed Medicines, which set out several recommendations for organisations in health and care to optimise prescribing of these medicines.

As a follow-up, in order to implement these recommendations NHS England and NHS Improvement issued a Call for Case Studies, looking for examples of good practice in this area.

IIPDW co-ordinated a submission of seven examples of good practice amongst our Associates around the world, including the UK, Israel and Norway. Some are direct examples of services addressing prescribed dependence and withdrawal, others are examples of good practice embedded in mainstream services. Two case studies involved the use of tapering strips.
